Idea wall

Posted on | June 24, 2009 | Comments

Just one of the ways I collect ideas (I also am a whiteboard guy to sketch and outline plans). As much as I love technology there is something about the tactile feel of a post it note as the idea rushes from your head, gains wings and lands on the paper. Like a modern day alchemist it grows from a thought to an idea as soon as it lands on the note. For me, ideas become possible once they are written down.

What about you, what do you use?

  • Gavin,

For me It really depends on the type of notes. I use 2 applications for the most part. Evernote on my Mac (I should sync it with my iphone and the web more often) and the Notes application on my iPhone for things i'll need quick access. For basic ideas, I have actually heard of people who put notepads next to their bed at night in case they get an idea that pops in their head, which is a good idea.

  • @mike good call on Evernote, I tried it for a bit and it just didn't work for me. I will use the notes on my iPhone to capture occasional thoughts. I think a lot when I drive, and I do drive with a legal pad and pen accessible.

@jfloyd mind maps are an interesting process. For me, I'm much more of an explode onto paper then an explode onto an application that allows me to capture my thoughts. I'm sure I'd get better if unused them more frequently. I've used bubble.me I think it was called. What do you use?
  • Like your idea explosions on the wall, mindmaps are a great way to show the interconnection and relatedness of ideas. Also, I love google notebook. It is a great way to assemble clips while researching.
